color core card

Practical Scrappers is featuring projects made with color or white core cardstock. Here is a pretty example I made using coredinations brand color core from their Black Magic collection.

Here is a handy-dandy tip: When sanding, open the embossing folder and do your sanding while the cardstock is still on the base of the embossing folder, that way you won't crush the embossing!
Be sure to hop over to Practical Scrappers to see more inspiring pieces using color core and white core cardstock!

Other products used for this card:
Pink base and framing layer- coredinations Gemstones collection;
Flowers by Prima; Brads by Creative Impressions; Ribbon unknown; Cuttlebug embossing folders; Spellbinders Nestabilities Dies; WeRMemoryKeepers Corner Chomper

Ransom Note

The Fabulous Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs this week is "Ransom Note" - what fun!
Whenever we go riding with more than one motorcycle and we are all loading up, this line from a Queen song goes through my head "Get on your bikes and ride!" The song is not even referring to motorcycles, but regular bicycles, never the less something about the way they shout it in the song makes me think of everyone jumping on their motorcycles and roaring away! So, of course, when my grandson got on this motorcycle springy thing at the park, that's the first thing I though of! My husband and I had our grandkids at the park without their parents that day and when I showed my son-in-law the picture he quipped "Bad grandparents - no helmet or boots!" (We are all very safety conscious and wear full gear when we ride) So I had to include that in my journaling.

This title is done in true ransom note style with the letters individually cut from a magazine and decoupaged on to a distressed kraft tag.

I used this sketch from Sassy Lil Sketches and am entering my layout in their sketch challenge.

All paper is by Fancy Pants Designs from the "Like Father Like Son" and "Rough and Tough" lines.
Tags and Ink are Tim Holtz for Ranger
Stamp is Studio G
Trinkets are Ranger
Mesh is drywall tape
Brads are Creative Impressions
and I used a Spellbinders Nestabilities Die

Here are some close-ups:

I hope you are inspired to make a "Ransom Note" project and link it up for the chance at a fabulous prize at Frosted Designs! Remember, Frosted Designs gives away a prize EVERY WEEK - this week's prize is this cute Halloween stamp set from Joys Life:

Quinn's second year mini album

Baby girl will be TWO in November - hardly seems possible!
She is the sweetest most loveable little granddaughter EVER!
Her mommy and daddy are totally in to dinosaurs so when I saw the "Babysaurus" collection by Little Yellow Bicycle I ordered it all to make this mini album commemorating each month of Quinn's second year. I used a Basic Grey chocolate chip board album. It was staggered but I cut the pages down to all be 6"x6".

Hop on over to Practical Scrappers to see more new altered projects posted today!

TPV Birthday Challenge Day 5

WOOT! I am quite pleased with myself that I managed to complete a project for each of the five challenges that The Paper Variety posted for their one year blogaversary! I also completed their blog hop which was quite fun and inspirational. Happy Birthday TPV and thanks for all the fun!
The Day 5 challenge is to use your favorite embellishment. My all time fav is pearl flourishes. I will occasionally use a bling flourish but much prefer the pearls, they add such a simple elegance to any project.

I used this weeks card sketch at Twisted Sketches and have entered their challenge also:

I used a piece of Kraft paper as my base. A little left over piece of paper from my scraps which I believe is Basic Grey (correct me if I'm wrong!) The sentiment and border stamps are by Stampin' Up, Spellbinders die, and Tim Holtz Distress Inks. The pearl flourish is by want2scrap (there are two of these in the package and I picked it up for $1 at CKC Vallley Forge PA this year!)

TPV Birthday Challenge Day 3

The Paper Variety is celebrating their first bloggy birthday with challenges, a blog hop, and prizes - I completed the hop yesterday and have completed four of the five challenges! Hopefully I will get the fifth challenge completed before the deadline tomorrow!
The day 3 challenge is to use your favorite picture(s) on a layout.

Well, I'm not sure I can qualify any one picture as my all time favorite but the one in the center of this layout is definitely my most favorite picture of this summer! It is my grandson Jacob at 15 months - between the hat and the little pouty mouth, this is one stinkin' adorable picture!
(click picture to enlarge for a better look if you like!)
I used this week's sketch from Skeches In Thyme (#55) and am entering this layout at their site also:

Product list:
Paper: Scenic Route "Grafton", Fancy Pants "Wave"; DMC Floss # 977; Spellbinders Die Cut; Letters: "jacob"- k.i.memories, "beach" - K&Co, "baby" - doodlebug designs; Zig Zag stickers - K&Co.; Tim Holtz Distress Inks

TPV birthday celebration day 4

The Paper Variety is celebrating their first bloggy birthday with challenges, a blog hop, and prizes - of course I want to play along!
The day 4 (yes, I'm out of order- need to go to Walmart to pick up the pics for the day 3 challenge!) challenge is to use your favorite color to make a monochromatic project. I've made a card in my most favoritist color of purple! - Proof positive is that the background that I've laid the card on is one of my many shirts in this color! I'm also entering this card in the challenge at Stuck on U Sketches to make a project using a die cut flower. My flower was made using a Spellbinders die in three sizes and a punch for the center.

Papers are My Minds Eye from the Bohemia collection. Gem flourish is by Gem Arts, Corner punch by Fiskars, Cardstock is DCWV, Ink is Ranger, Hello stamp is Close to My Heart stamped with Versafine ink in vintage sepia and heat embossed with Stampendous embossing powder.

TPV birthday celebration day 2

The Paper Variety is celebrating their first bloggy birthday with challenges, a blog hop, and prizes - of course I want to play along!
The day 2 (which was Thurs. ~ I'm a little behind!) challenge is to use your favorite manufacturer on the bulk of your project. I have a few manufacturer's that I prefer but my consistent, all time, go to favorite, is My Minds Eye.

This layout has My Minds Eye papers from three different lines, some old, some new!
This is my precious granddaughter Quinn enjoying some corn on the cob with her daddy. She is 21 months old now!
(click on photo to enlarge for a closer look)

I used this awesome sketch by Jessica of scrapbaby! sketches. I love everything about this sketch so I used it just the way it was.

In addition to the MME papers, I've used flowers by Prima and Jolees, twine from The Twinery, letters "YUM" by Making Memories and "August 2011" by KaiserCraft. The photos are mounted on Bazzil dot and the bird was made using a spellbinders die and of course, all of the ink is Ranger!

The Paper Variety is celebrating their first bloggy birthday with challenges, a blog hop, and prizes - of course I want to play along!

It is stamped with watermark ink (on to a piece of chipboard covered with vintage music) and then covered with Ranger Perfect Pearls. All paper on this project is My Minds Eye and all ink is Ranger. The "Hello" stamp is by Close to my Heart. Ribbon is unknown mfg. Diecut is Spellbinders.

Time Flies!

I am so excited to share with you my first layout as a member of the
Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Design Team!

This Friday's challenge is to use postage stamps, envelopes, and/or tickets. I used beautiful papers by Graphic 45 who is sponsoring the fabulous prize at Frosted Designs this week. The pictures are of my daughter Robin on her first birthday and of her son Jacob on his first birthday 26 1/2 years later, both sitting in the same little chair!
Here are some close-ups:

You can click on the photos to enlarge them for a closer look if you like!

I used this sketch from Stuck On U Sketches and have entered my layout in their sketch challenge.

The Graphic 45 papers I used are from the Christmas Emporium Collection and the Botanicabella Collection.
Additional products include:
Letters: "Time Flies": American Crafts Thickers Nutmeg
Journaling Font: Calibri
Ink: StazOn- Rusty Brown, Versafine- Vintage Sepia, Tim Holtz Distress Ink-Brushed Corduroy and Tim Holtz Distress Stain- Scattered Straw.
Clock Stamp: Hero Arts
Bingo Card: Jenni Bowlin
Flourish Die: Sizzlits
Butterfly Punch: Martha Stewart
The postage stamps in the upper right corner are real - cut off mail I received at home!
The ephemera I used came in a kit I received as a prize so I don't know who the manufacturer is.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, I'd love for you to comment on my post and to become a follower!
I hope you will join us in making a project using postage stamps, envelopes, and/or tickets and link it up over at Frosted Designs!

Chipboard feature

Over at Practical Scrappers they had a feature on using chipboard on cards. Here are a couple of cards I made using Tim Holtz Grungeboard flourishes and letters sprayed with Adirondak Color Wash in "Meadow" then rubbed with Ranger Perfect Pearls in "Green Patina". On the base of the second one, I used the negative of the grungeboard and stenciled Tim Holtz Distress Ink in "Vintage Photo" through it. The three square motifs on the second one are the pictures of the paper samples off the back of the TH Idea-ology paper pack. Hop on over to Practical Scrappers to check out the other designers chipboard projects. The next challenge is a color challenge. Why not give it a go and submit your project to: practicalscrapperslayouts@gmail.com
Check out the current calls on their sideboard and come play along with us!
